Biography:
Wonder Woman is a warrior princess of the Amazons. She is known for her superhuman powers and amazing combat skills. She possesses magical weapons that protect and in some stories invisible cars and airplanes.
#1 with chapter 4: The Self and Interaction
Concept: Personal Front- the expressive equipment we consciously or unconsciously use as we present ourselves to others, including appearance and manner, to help establish the definition of the situation. Pg. 108
Wonder Woman has her own personal front that is very evident to see. Wonder woman's heroic powers is what she is known for, however her costume and the way she presents herself (fierce facial appearance, muscles bowed out, and fist bowed up) lets us all know that she is known for her powers. She also has on unbreakable silver bracelets and a razor sharp golden tiara to help her be a hero. This is establishing the fact that Wonder woman is there to do her duty.
#2 with chapter 6: Deviance
Concept: Positive Deviance- actions considered deviant within a given context but are later reinterpreted as appropriate or even heroic. Pg. 172
Wonder Woman practices Positive Deviance when she is being a hero, as crazy as that may seem. Whenever she comes in and saves the day, she usually has to hurt or kill the bad guy which is illegal. Even though killing is defiant and a crime, if she is doing it to save someone she is Wonder Woman and she is not going to be penalized. Her Magic Tiara that acts as a "deadly boomerang" and her Lasso of Truth are some of her weapons that people may see as deviant but later on when seeing what Wonder Woman is heroic for, people will see she is a good woman helping people out all the time!
#3 with Chapter 8: Race and Ethnicity as Lived Experience
Concept: Ethnicity- a socially defined category based on common language, religion, nationality, history, or another cultural factor. pg. 218
Wonder Woman was born the daughter of Queen Hippolyta on Paradise Island. Her mom carved her from clay. Since her mom was Greek, she gave her daughter the same feature. She is part of the Greek ethnic group. Granted by The gods of the Olympus she went to the United States of America to fight for peace, justice, and truth as Wonder Woman. She is the princess of the Amazons.
#4 with chapter 10: The Macro- Micro Link in Social Institutions: politics, education, and religion.
Concept: Power- the ability to impose one's will on others. pg. 281
Wonder Woman has a great amount of power. She is a super hero and people depend on her. When someone is hurt or being attacked, etc., wonder woman comes in and saves the day. The book talks how power is the ability to get others to do one's bidding. Wonder Woman does not ask anyone to do anything for her because she can be a super hero all by herself. However, if she did ask for a high authority status, people would give her that because of how much power she holds.
#5 with chapter of choice (chapter 13): Leisure and Media
Concept: Role Model- an individual who serves as an example for others to strive toward and emulate. pg. 391
Wonder Woman is a role model in so many ways. She is a role model to the people that she protects and the people that watched her protect. She is a very powerful superhero that helps others. People see how much good she does and sees how much she helps people and want to do good just like her. She is also a role model in our real world today. She is often a Halloween costume for girls because they look up to her. I see alot of the Wonder Woman shirts today because she is looked up too. She is many peoples role model because of all the good she does and all the people she helps!
